Saints can't beat Little Sisters of the Poor.

Bears & Saints for the NFC title Sunday. Vegas says Bears by 3. I'm a "Johnny come lately - only watch the playoffs" football fan - so I offer no insight really - except to explain a little of what the New Orleans Saints are all about. I lived in New Orleans during the Bum Phillips /Kenny Stabler years and for a while under Jim Mora. The dome was always sold out. New Orleanians support the Saints no matter what the record is. Remember the bags on the heads? They were worn by paying fans in seats at the games. In New Orleans they celebrate the team despite the win - loss record. In the years the team was lackluster - fans celebrated their "badness." In better years, fans celebrated the "possibility" of greatness. Make no mistake, the Saints are the Chicago Cubs of pro football. The Bears have a rich tradition of greatness. The Saints have a rich tradition of ineptitude. There was even a joke - book. "The Saints couldn't even beat the Little Sisters of the Poor." (Pictured)

To Bears fans Sundays match up is a game. To Saints fans this is a dream. If it's in the cards for the Saints to lose, at least let the game be close - so these rabid - loyal South Louisiana fans can hold onto the dream as long as possible. Listen to me - their dream has been realized already, my God they're gonna party Sunday - no matter what the score.

I just wanted to say that to the Bears, and Chicago, it really isn't just a game either. Yes, the Saints are bringing a dream as well as a message of overcoming the terrible to get to something great. New Orleans deserves to smile. But the Bears are also bringing a dream back to Chicago. For so long we have been close, but no prize. Our offense has been talked about badly, Our defense has been great but people’s personal lives are overshadowing the game and people, especially Chicagoans began to think that any type of Chicago sports greatness died with the "old" Bulls. Even the Cubs came close a few years ago to the World Series and blew the lead. And even the White Sox couldn't win it a 2nd year straight. But if the Bears advance, the people of the windy city begin to believe again. We begin to think that our support and backing was not in vain. That's important to us. It's not just a game.

O.K. It's more than "a game." But, trust me, New Orleans is 20% more excited. They've NEVER been to the dance.

I agree with you. The Saints are excited. They should be. What they have done in a year is amazing. I'm a young woman and I've always loved football, but this year the final 4 teams have turned me into a "complete" jock. I love watching them all. Concerning the Saints, they've never been in this position before. But don't forget that a lot of these Bears haven't been in this NFC Championship round before either. They have always fallen short, even with a bye (too sad). I am so pleased for them now. And honestly, if Chicago wasn't in the running, all of my energy would be for the Saints and the Colts to go to the Super Bowl, because each deserves it, and the Patriots always seem to be in it. But I love my Bears and I want the 2006-2007 Bears to make their own history because they keep getting compared to the Bears of the 80s and it isn't fair. They can't live up to that. All they can do is be the best they can in this year. I wish the Saints well in years to come, but right now I say "GO BEARS." But honestly, wouldn't it be cool and interesting if it was Chicago and New England, 20 years later?
