We are flattered.

Brian and Kellie have read EVERY single comment on the net today. Our eyes are tired. We are in awe. Thank you - each and every one of you.

B/K ... can you tell us the "rest of the story?" Comments posted on the sj-r site speculate that you both were highly compensated and merely fired to be replaced by a less costly employee or syndicated show; what is the real deal? If that is true, I hope you're getting a lawyer!

I have been listening to you since you first started at WNNS. I was very saddened when I heard that you are no longer with the radio station. I have started surfing to find a new station. Please let us know where you end up, because I will be there with you. After 15 years you have become a part of my regular routine and I miss you and Kellie! Best wishes to both of you!

OK, I am trying to cope here...I need my Brian and Kellie fix! You guys are my morning routine. Please keep us updated.

I miss you both, big time!

WNNS isn't the same without Brian & Kellie in the morning.

I am devastated. I have relied on you and Kellie to start my workday for almost 15 years. I cannot imagine any conceivable, valid reason to take you off the air. But I do know I am no longer a WNNS listener. I was disappointed to have the Daliah show in the evenings, so when I did listen in the evenings, I switched stations then. But my morning and daytime listening was always WNNS. Ironically, it was something similiar that happened to WYMG that got me onto WNNS years ago and I will now go onto another. If you two end up on a station that is broadcast here - no matter what the genre is - I will listen. You delivered more than music - you delivered entertainment and you will be missed terribly.

Bri & Kellie: I, too, would agree that you should consult an attorney. Assuming that this action was a result of your blog (we'd really appreciate hearing your side of the story), your First Amendment rights have been violated, and assuming that as a professional, you didn't make any statements that could be interpreted as the official position of WNNS or MWFB, you've not overstepped any boundaries especially when offering a personal opinion regarding a public figure. Other local "jocks" have been the center of far greater controversy. I've tuned my radio dials to other stations to try to get what you guys offered me daily since 1995: solid news coverage, entertainment, and info that I needed. What also made both of you different is the fact that you both care deeply about the community with your active involvement with local events, celebrations, local chairities, and observations about the need for strong tourism efforts and the new Museum. I can't say that I see the same in any of the other personalities in town; most impress me as always looking for the next job. Clearly, both of you are professionals, and the management of other stations will recognize that you both bring a great deal to the table and hopefully will beat paths to your door. We'll show management what you mean to us when ratings plummet!!! MWFB has proven that local ownership and management do make a difference. Said managers are provincial and lack the insights of the big-city corporate types. Perhaps this decision would have best been handled by New York or LA. They represent professionals of a different ilk. Best wishes to you both, and please let us know where you go. I'll be there in a heartbeat!

I did not realize how conservative you were/are until I read your blog. Is this why the station axed you? Doesn't (I really don't know) Midwest Broadcasting own a Rush Limbaugh type talk radio station? Maybe they will give you a job.

I am so disappointed that you two are not on WNNS in the mornings, and the 70's lunch hour is just boring without you! I will no longer be listening to WNNS, and like others have posted, if you go to another station locally I will listen to you there.

B & K... On another site, I've just read that Kellie was the real target of the "woodsman's axe". Can you comment without offering details that would compromise any legal action that you might consider? I've also read copies of e-mailed instructions issued by Kevan Kavanaugh to the local Midwest Family stations, instructing employees not to respond to the public's questions and not to allow callers to express their views on the situation; how petty. I seem to recall fairly recent ads on WNNS that claimed that the station was sensitive to listeners' concerns; this recent action shows quite the opposite. Does "local" management really have a handle on the pulse of Springfield radio listeners? As far as local management is concerned, how can "local" owners in Madison, WI, know what is important in Springfield, IL? If you two can start your own station, I'd like to be an investor! Thanks so much for all that you've contributed to Springfield.

B & K,
As a person who recently decided to stop pursuing radio as a career after years of part time work all I can say is THANK YOU. You two have been an inspiration on how radio people are supposed to be. I knew when Ray Lytle left that QLZ would fall apart. I always thought that after they learned that lesson you two would be treated like royalty and then MWFB had to go and show how stupid they were and pull this. Some Stupid Companies never learn.
I remember when I first got in the business everyone looked up to MWFB because there were rumors that you, One Eye, and Ray had all turned down chances to go to bigger markets so that you could stay in Springfield and at MWFB. I see how they paid back your loyalty. All of you are now gone. I know that one day they will get what's coming to them when WNNS falls on the same hard times as WQLZ. I hope you end up wherever you want to be and if it is not in Springfield then I hope you are at least on the web so we can still hear you from time to time

It amazes me how much your listeners love you guys. I thought it was just me.

I say go to ABE.

You probably can't tell us, but we need to know what happened. I called and good naturedly scolded you about your Bill Clinton remarks, but I really defend to the death your right to make them. I've read your blog and agreed with none of it. However, nothing is represented as the opinion of the station. The last time I heard the first amendment was still in force. You have a right to your opinion and no matter what kind of right wing political ideas you have, you shouldn't be fire for them. You both do your job effortlessly and helped many of us get motivated to go to our boring jobs in the morning. We will certainly miss you both terribly if this isn't resolved.

you guys will really be missed. i enjoyed listening to you talk about the kids.

I used to catch parts of your show, I'm more of a 1240AM talk show kind of guy with Gleen Beck, Rush and Sean Hannity, but after reading the article in the paper I am livid! You are right about what Hillary of the military, she's a left wing nutjob if the ever was one. And for those people who wined about the accuracy of your comments, how about this: how would you feel if you owned a business and you made record profits only to have President Hillary take all or a huge chunk of your profits? Well SHE said in a town hall meeting after it was said by a few oil companies they posted record profits that she'd "take those profits from those companies". SHE said this, this isn't hearsay. Hillary not only loathes the military, she loathes capitalism and this country, yet she's living pretty high on the hog. Her husband has made 40 million in speaking gigs over the last 6 years, think he should cough up some of that? I do, to the health care industry for all the people who are going to develope health issue from breathing in all the methane gas from his BS. Bottom line is you are right. I hope the dismissal wasn't due to your political views.

I'd say call ABE. You'd be the perfect match and we could all get back to normal. The sooner the better. I have to get up Monday morning.

I cant wait to hear the whole story

Is it still possible these days to start a small station? Or maybe do podcast stuff? We miss you guys.

I'm glad to see other people feel the same passion about their radio show as I. Good Luck in the future B & K.

We have listened to you for many years and always enjoyed your show. You guys were our morning companions and occasionally at other times during the day. Keep us posted, particularly if you end up at another channel. WNNS is no longer on our pre-selects...

What will I do in the morning? This will be the first Monday without Brian and Kellie since I was a teenager! Please don't leave town and come back on another station. Please?

Anonymous said...

b/k, I was stunned to learn that you will no longer be on WNNS. You are the reason I listened in the mornings. I guess I will have to find another station. I was also stunned to learn that the two of you are married! Is this true! Please post where we can listen to you. I hope you find another station soon in the area. Best of Luck, you will be missed!!!!

I am going through withdrawals without my daily dose of B & K. I can't function!!!! Help. I need rehab soon. Let me know where to go.

This morning was difficult and depressing...

B/K... I have been listening to you since you first started on wnns. I even set my alarm to come on at 5:55 so I could listen to you when you first come on the air. I hated when you went on vacations, because it through my week off, it wasn't the same when one of you were gone, no one could take the place of either one of you. You have been a big part of my life in the morning, you will soooooo be missed. I have know need to listen to wnns with you gone, I will not feel bad about listening to my satalite radio full time now. I wish you the best in what ever comes you way. There is always something good come out of something bad. You lives will only be better, hopefully you will be back on the air close by so I can tune in again. We all love you

Surely someone offered you a job today. If they didn't, someone will soon. People like you don't come up for employ often.

Add me to the list of well wishers.

Anyone else notice that on the WNNS website, there is no link to an email address? I wonder why? Could it be they don't wanna hear from the fans?

I say fuck em!

I hate to break the news to some of you but there is no first amendment rights when it comes to employment.

The free speech is a protection against governmental interference, not an employer.

As much as I adore these two, and have spent the past five years listening to them daily, an employer in Illinois can terminate for any reason they want, unless there is a contractual agreement in place and it specifies under what conditions the employment can be terminated.

Anonymous said...

Ok this is enough now! Maybe you both could just use a speaker phone and call us each morning and talk to us about what's happening. I miss you!

I can't wait for your return.

This is a letter that I sent to the management of Midwest Family Broadcast System.

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like you to inform Midwest Family Broadcast System that I will no longer be listing to any of your radio stations. The dismissal of Brian and Kellie is a business decision that will cost your company dearly. Brian and Kellie are Lite-Rock 99, and they make your radio station what it is today. You will soon find out that not only will Midwest Family Broadcast System lose listeners, but you will revenue. I will await the announcement of their next gig and will definitely switch to that radio station. There are some decisions that are made for the betterment of the “Company”, but you will soon find out it was the worst mistake that was made by Midwest “Family” Broadcast System.

You and Kellie will be sadly missed! You 2 are the only reason I listened to LiteRock99 in the mornings.
I think midwest family is making some terrible mistakes. They lose ray lytle on wqlz, change the format of 97.7, get rid of ewords!, and now they lose brian & kellie. big mistakes, big big mistakes!
I wish you both well and I hope to hear you again soon on another station!
